Continuity and Memory

The design of the new library is conceived in continuity with the work of Rino Levi, engaging in dialogue with the existing architecture of the school. Careful material selection and a sensitive insertion into the site extend this approach, updating its legacy through a contemporary architectural language.

Contemporary Identity

Entirely built with a timber structure, the library asserts itself as a building of our time. The use of this renewable material expresses the intention to ground the project in a responsible approach, in which technical performance is allied with architectural expression.

Spatial Clarity and Flexibility

The volumes are defined with rigor and simplicity, offering a clear and fluid internal organization. Beyond this clarity, the structural conception incorporates a reflection on flexibility of use: spaces can evolve and transform over time, ensuring the building’s longevity and its adaptability to the future needs of the school community.

Light, Protection, and Bioclimatic Design

The pursuit of natural light lies at the heart of the project: large expanses of transparent glazing and an open atrium create bright and welcoming spaces. The ceramic cobogó screen plays an essential role, delicately filtering and protecting the library’s precious contents—the books—while ensuring visual continuity between interior and exterior. At night, this perforated skin transforms the building into a lantern, affirming its open and warm presence on the campus.

Relationship with Ground and Sky

The building establishes a fluid relationship with its surroundings. Welcoming spaces unfold at ground level with great transparency, while visual openings toward the sky convey a sense of openness and elevation, reinforcing the library’s collective and inspiring character.
